Following the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in Q2 2020, hiring in the global language industry has continued to rebound. In December 2020, the Slator Language Industry Job Index (LIJI) rose to nearly 110, up nearly four points from the month prior.
October was a milestone month as the Index exceeded the baseline, taken to be July 2018 (100), for the first time since March 2020. The Index is now approximately at the same level as January 2019.
The Index tracks employment and recruiting trends in the global language industry. The growth in December is related to a notable increase in job ads from November 2020 across nearly all Slator-monitored platforms.
In November 2020, observational data linked to activity throughout the language industry revealed clear indicators of a recovering industry.
