Hiring in the global language industry has been heating up in the months following the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Confirming this trend, the Slator Language Industry Job Index (LIJI) jumped a record 3.3 points in October 2020 - its biggest increase for the year.
The October LIJI rose to 102.55 from September, surpassing its baseline established in July 2018 (100). In an encourage sign of recovery, the LIJI now stands at about the same level as October 2018.
The LIJI tracks employment and hiring trends in the global language industry. The jump in October is due to an increase in job ads from September across all platforms monitored by Slator.
Observational data related to activity across the language industry in the month of September 2020 also showed strong indicators of a recovering industry.
