Job Description

We’re currently seeking a full-time German to English Translator to work in-house at our Nottingham-based translation company.


In recent years we’ve built a successful team of in-house translators and proofreaders working mainly from German to English, but also from several other European languages. Our clients have very exacting requirements in terms of both translation quality and our overall responsiveness. To meet these expectations our team have highly developed translation, proofreading and time-management competences. An opportunity has now arisen to appoint an additional talented translator to further strengthen and enhance the team.


You will fulfil the following essential requirements:

  • Fluent in English to native level
  • At least a 2:1 Bachelor’s degree in German
  • At least two years’ full-time experience as a freelance or in-house translator
  • Excellent, demonstrable translation and proofreading skills and English writing style
  • Sound IT and computer-aided translation (CAT) skills
  • Flexibility
  • Attention to detail
  • An ability to grasp new concepts quickly, take the initiative and work independently
  • Very good time management skills
  • A thorough and rigorous approach


You will also ideally have one or more of the following:

  • An MA in translation studies
  • An excellent command (at least university level) of a second foreign language
  • Experience in writing English-language copy, e.g.in journalism or a similar field


The position entails the following main responsibilities:

  • Providing liaison between our translation team and our project managers to produce high-quality results
  • Translating texts on a wide variety of different subjects, offering a number of subject specialisms
  • Working to a high level of accuracy and with an output of approximately 2,000–2,500 words per day
  • Proofreading the work of other internal and external translators
  • Using a variety of CAT tools and other translation resources
  • Handling queries and other feedback from clients in both English and German
  • Maintaining in-house translation resources (glossaries and translation memories)

  • Representing the company at university talks and similar events


Start date: 14 June 2021 or by arrangement.
